2024 Georgia Junior Science & Humanities Symposium

The Office of Academic Special Programs at the University of Georgia invites students in grades 9-12 to apply for the 49th Georgia Junior Science & Humanities Symposium, sponsored by the U.S. Office of the Secretary of Defense, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, and U.S. Air Force and Space Force.

GJSHS provides participants with a unique opportunity to conduct high-level research in the sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM), prepare a scientific paper, and present their work to a panel of judges and their peers in the format of an academic, scientific conference. Participants will develop higher-order thinking skills and integrated learning across disciplines through the process of scientific inquiry, writing a research paper, and delivering a presentation -- all skills that will benefit future post-secondary and graduate pursuits.

GJSHS will be held February 25-27, 2024 at the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education & Hotel. To be selected, students submit an abstract and research paper (6-20 pages), which will be reviewed by a team of qualified STEM research professionals. Based on their evaluations, approximately 50 students will be invited to present at the three-day GJSHS event on the University of Georgia campus in February.

The application deadline for GJSHS is January 9, 2024. Details about eligibility, the application process, judging criteria, and Rules & Guidelines for competition are available in the GJSHS Handbook with Rules & Guidelines. The online application will open on December 1, 2023 at www.georgiacenter.uga.edu/gjshs.

Students who are selected to participate in GJSHS will compete for cash awards, scholarships, and the opportunity to meet and network with other students and some of the nation's top STEM professionals at the National Junior Science & Humanities Symposium, held May 1-4, 2024 in Albuquerque, NM.

We hope your students will participate! To learn more, please visit www.georgiacenter.uga.edu/gjshs.
