Department of Natural Resouces Summer Camp Application - Due November 30th

Are you interested in a career in forestry, environmental and conversation management, or natural sciences? It is that time of year again, we began recruitment efforts for our second DNR Career Academy last week. This week-long, overnight summer camp will be held July 16-22, 2022, and will encourage high school students to consider future career paths with DNR.  Cost is $100.00.

Career Academy students will learn about all major aspects of working for DNR. Hands-on activities are designed to introduce young people to fisheries and wildlife management, conservation law enforcement, and hospitality and historic interpretation.

As part of the Career Academy, students will take part in:

  • Electrofishing and fish habitat creation
  • Prescribed burns and land management
  • Boating and firearms safety
  • Trailblazing and state park management
  • Saltwater fisheries surveys and methods

Applications will be accepted until November 30th

Last year’s camp was a huge success, and we have a committee from each division working to make it even better! Career Academy attendees will have the opportunity to visit wildlife management areas, hatcheries, state parks, and the coast. Each division will have an opportunity to show students first-hand how we carry out our mission and overall departmental goals.

You can find more information at the link below or contact Lindsey Brown with any questions. I hope you all will join me in supporting the department’s efforts to recruit the next generation of DNR employees who will be as passionate about conservation as you.
